Katherine CHu

Katherine Chu is a 13-year-old pianist and composer from Vancouver, Canada. She is currently studying with Dr. Libby Yu. Katherine started her piano learning at four and as an enthusiastic classical music learner and an observer in music theory, she has made her composition up to a new stage. Katherine finished her first concerto debut with Richmond Symphony Orchestra in July 2023 and took honors to play with Chilliwack Symphony Orchestra in May 2024, Vancouver Chamber Orchestra in March 2025, and the upcoming June 2025 with Valley Orchestra.

Katherine has won numerous awards in different music festivals and competitions, including the First Prize Winner of Crescendo International Piano Competition in New York in the years of 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025; Second Prize Winner of 2024 London Overseas’ Musician League International Piano Competition Final; First Place Winner in Kiwanis Festival in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2025; First Place Winner as well as Contract Award Winner from OYMI in 2022 and 2023, Semi-finalist in Canadian Chopin Competition in 2024 and Top Twelve in Grade 9 for Music Lights the Way Piano Festival in Canada 2022. Katherine has been invited to play piano solo in Carnegie Weill Recital Hall in 2021, 2022, 2023, to Harvard Paine Hall in May 2024 and to perform as a piano soloist in Queen Elizabeth Theater in Vancouver in January 2023. Dedicated to developing her piano foundations, expressions and musical understanding, Katherine hopes to bring the beautiful performance and enjoyment to the audience. In addition to piano area, she is also doing musical singing, chamber choir and golfing. Her passion in math brings her another platform to compete in state and national level in US. Holding the true passion for learning and pursuing, Katherine aspires to contribute to the community.
